Nestled at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, the village of Materuni is a hidden gem of Northern Tanzania. Blessed with lush green landscapes, fresh mountain air, and rich Chagga culture, Materuni is the perfect escape for nature lovers and culture seekers alike.
The highlight of the trip is the Materuni Waterfall, one of the tallest in the region, dropping 70 meters into a crystal-clear basin. The trail to the falls takes you through tropical rainforests, banana and coffee farms, and scenic valleys at an altitude of 2,500m. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and Moshi town on clear days.
Visitors also get the chance to immerse themselves in Chagga traditions — from learning how coffee is grown, harvested, and roasted the traditional way, to tasting fresh local brews. This is an ideal day trip for those with limited time but who wish to experience Tanzania’s natural beauty and culture.
